're at the president obama white house almost every week meeting with president obama. and i understand that he wants them to help him get his general accomplished. i understand that. what about the other direction? the fact that they're getting all this face time with the president. does that mean they're getting their agenda, too? well, you can judge for yourself in small ways. we're told that a senator elizabeth warren of massachusetts is about to get a seat on the senate banking committee. it's not official yet but one aide says it is, quote, likely. this of course has the banking world, the financial industry in a tissy. this is not what they wanted. they did not want a new sheriff on wall street. one democratic aide describing them as, quote, going nuts over this. but going nuts does not necessarily mean you get what you want. especially not when the horse you bet on so boldly lost so badly. it also means that working goat some things doesn't mean you have to work together on everything. and it also means that elections have consequences. now it's time for "the last word" with lawrence o'donnel

done in 2011. if you remember, math by details in the sitdown between boehner and obama last year. boehner's office wouldn't write the number 800 billion in its initial offer to the white house because they didn't want other house republicans to see that. the fact that that figure is on the table and boehner is taking to the air waives to say, you know who's going to get soaked here? the rich. is a shocking reversal of where the republican party was i agree ago. >> look at this. these are some smart conservatives. byron york in "the weekly standard," and john padora, bill kristol are all saying the republicans have to do something. they're playing a losing hand. fedoris writes, every way you look at it, the gop is trapped. republican politicians will cave and give the president most of what he wants. the only real question is, when? the answer is, probably at the worst possible time when they've done even more damage to the party's brand. governor, if you were a republican today, would you sitting down say, you know we have to eat this, deal with this top 2%, we can't be seen as h

of president obama's playbook. most recently the white house urged people to take to twitter and use the #my2k. in case you forgot the former senator is one half of the simpson bowles duo appointed by president obama who actually came up with a plan to cut the deficit, a plan that everyone hailed as magnificent but no one wanted to adopt. >>> joining me now is cnn contributor will cain. he leans right. good morning, will. >> good morning. let me tell you something. you said the popularity of gangnam style knows no limits. i beg to differ. >> you do? >> i think we just found its limits, when 8-year-olds start doing gangnam style you can count on its popularity decreasing. we're about a year away from it being makarena. >> trying to get two sides come together to come to a deal on the fiscal cliff. >> i don't know about young people's abilities to force cats and dogs and democrats and republicans to come together to find a deal. he had a much more profound message than just simply dancing in that clip, in that psa essentially. he was trying to alert young people to the fact that old people, blun

perplexed. why world the white house consider closing president obama's official 1-20 january 20th swearing in to a press pool? what's this all about? >> the presidential inaugural committee put out a list this year this week that described the inauguration ceremony, formal one, official one which takes place on sunday as being private. and when press people ask about what the private meant, they said a decision had not been made yet on coverage for that ceremony. that's not the big public one that takes place on monday the 21st but the official one on sunday. i don't understand why there is any discussion. if the president's inauguration official inauguration is not a public event, what is? i was covering the white house in 1985 when the same situation came up with president reagan. his big ceremony was on monday but he was privately sworn in on sunday. there was a full press pool in there to see that and record it, including photographers. and i hope that this white house decides to follow that same course. >> okay. susan page, your many followers are also probably chiming in as well with

that just before president obama took effect, white house figures show the federal budget was $2.9 trillion. next year's estimate is going to be $3.8 trillion. this is a 31% increase in spending in just four years. we have someone as the president, our great president, who is hung up on taxing and spending. what we need is a house of representatives that's hung up on jobs and job creation. the american product. entrepreneurship. creativity. competition with the world. the next new great ideas. not that will come from this body but from the creativity of the american people. this is what republicans are trying to keep alive in our country. the idea of self-reliance and working hard and taking care of people that are not just in your house but are in your neighborhood. your cities. our states, the vibrancy of our country. and we are headed over the fiscal cliff after four years of leadership from this president who is running, running directly to the fiscal cliff. has even said, and secretary of treasury said, we don't mind jumping off this cliff. mr. speaker, we should not be having that kin

't work. >> president obama telling bloomberg tv the republicans' math just doesn't work. of course, the gop is delivering the same message about the white house plan. today, a bipartisan group of governors went to the white house and capitol hill, urging both sides to make a deal. two of those governors join me now. governor gary herbert of utah and jack markell of delaware, chair of the national governors association. welcome to you both. interesting day for you because you managed to talk to the president and john boehner, when they can't be bothered to talk to each other. so what did you discover? let me start with you, governor herbert. what was your take on the two meetings? >> well, we were honored to be invited. i think too many times, the states and governors have been overlooked and underappreciated and almost a second thought when it comes to some policies made so i applaud jack's leadership in getting us together in a bipartisan way through the national governors association. i thought we were well received. i think the president and the speaker and majority leader was a
